BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Goran Vesic resigned from his post on Tuesday.
At an extraordinary press conference on Monday evening, Vesic announced he would officially resign following a tragedy in which an overhang collapse at the Novi Sad railway station killed 14 people and seriously injured three others on Friday.
In a written statement on Tuesday, Vesic noted that he had tendered his resignation as a responsible individual who wanted to show by personal example that there was a sense of moral responsibility in Serbia for the horrible tragedy that had taken place in Novi Sad.
"I am leaving this post with a clear conscience and proud of the results I and the team of the Ministry of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure that has been working with me are leaving behind. I worked with great respect for and responsibility towards women and men citizens, as well as in the best faith and exclusively in the interest of Serbia," Vesic noted.
