BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic on Wednesday called elections for the Belgrade city assembly for June 2.

Brnabic signed a decision to call the polls in the parliament building.

Calling for a fair and honest election race, Brnabic urged all citizens to vote and show the direction Belgrade should be heading and developing in.

She said she had tried to use the time before calling the elections to initiate dialogue and to do everything in her power to ensure, through dialogue with all political stakeholders in the parliament, that the upcoming elections, as well as all future elections in Serbia, were as orderly as possible and in line with the highest democratic standards.

"I would again like to take this opportunity to say that my door remains open to dialogue and that we should show that we can sometimes also work together on things that are important for all our citizens, regardless of their political affinities and affiliations," Brnabic said.

It is now our common duty and obligation to ensure the election day passes in a manner as orderly as possible and in the spirit of respect, tolerance and democratic values, she said.

"That is why I call on all political parties and coalitions to compete with ideas and plans and ensure at all times that the election race is as fair as possible," Brnabic said.
