Vucic speaks with Scholz by phone

BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic spoke by phone with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz on Monday about the situation in Kosovo-Metohija and Serbia's role and place in preserving peace and stability in the region, as well as its European path and very successful economic cooperation with Germany.

"I informed Chancellor Scholz in detail of the almost intolerable situation for the Serb community in Kosovo-Metohija as well as of Pristina's dogged avoidance of meeting its accepted and signed commitments, especially with regards to the establishment of a Community of Serb Municipalities," Vucic wrote in a post on his buducnostsrbijeav Instagram account.

Vucic added that he had also exchanged views with Scholz on "all delicate issues in the context of the current global developments, especially Serbia's place and role in preserving peace and stability in the region, as well as on our country's European path."

"I noted that, on that path, which is not always easy, we need help from our partners, including Germany, and that we are counting on continued support for European integration as well as on concrete incentives that would lend a new impetus to continuing the reform processes and a new energy to candidate countries on the path to the EU," Vucic said.

He added that he had had a good and open exchange with Scholz about "all matters of mutual interest, the situation in Kosovo-Metohija as well as about the very successful economic cooperation and a constant rise of trade between our two countries."

"I thanked Germany for its commitment to the excellent economic relations with Serbia and major investments that have greatly contributed to Serbia's swift progress, and I especially looked back on the huge investment potentials that have opened up as part of EXPO 2027. I expressed the confidence German companies would find interest in some of the largest projects whose implementation will contribute to Serbia's strong growth and to establishing ties across the region over the long term," Vucic wrote in the post.

During the discussion with Scholz, Vucic reiterated Serbia was "consistently advocating stepping up diplomatic activities in the context of all current conflicts and outstanding issues burdening Europe and the Western Balkans region, which it has always demonstrated in all forums and initiatives."
