BELGRADE - Serbia's membership in the World Trade Organisation (WTO) has been on hold for years due to the 2009 law on GMOs, which is also slowing down the country's EU accession process, a Belgrade conference was told on Tuesday.

Serbia will not be able to join the EU without first becoming a WTO member, and Chapter 30 in the EU accession talks - which covers external trade relations - is very significant for the country's further progress, said the participants of a panel on Serbia's accession to the WTO and the EU in a time of populist challenges to international trade.
