VELENJE - A transfer of the last remaining Gorenje refrigerator production line from Velenje, Slovenia, to Valjevo, Serbia, will be complete in April, according to reports by media across the region.

The output capacity of a Valjevo plant will thus be increased by 150,000 units a year.

Through expansion and construction of additional production facilities, Gorenje Valjevo will become Hisense Group's European centre for manufacturing refrigerators and freezers.

The existing Valjevo plant, which has a 1,500-strong workforce, produced 672,000 units last year.

Gorenje plans to build an additional production facility for refrigerator technology next year, which will mean 1,000 new jobs and an additional 750,000 units a year in the first phase alone.

The Gorenje Group, whose majority owner is China's Hisense Group, also plans to open a television plant in Velenje.
