BELGRADE - Serbia's Balkan Stone Partner Group International has acquired the Crna Reka black gabbro mine near Zagubica, eastern Serbia, and the mining of the stone material is set to begin soon in a first for Serbia, the company's representatives said at the Stone Expo Serbia trade show Wednesday.

They announced a strategic partnership with the Zagubica municipality aimed at employing workers for the mining operations and then also for a processing plant.

The group's CEO Igor Djajic said the operations would greatly reduce the need for imports of similar materials.

Black gabbro has already been accepted by the construction company Eagle Hills as the material for pavement of public spaces in the Belgrade Waterfront project.
