BELGRADE - Serbia's exports in Q1 2019 were 10.4 pct up, rising more than had been planned for the entire year, Milan Trajkovic, deputy head of the National Bank of Serbia (NBS) Economic Research and Statistics Department, said Wednesday.

Asked by reporters to comment on the European Commission's decision to revise downward its 3.5 pct GDP growth forecast for Serbia for this year to 3.1 pct due to a slowdown of Serbia's major trade partners, Trajkovic said the main reason for this was an EC estimate that Serbian exports would slow down in 2019.

"They have revised the projection for only one reason - their view of this year's exports, whose growth they downgraded from around 7.5 pct to 6 pct," he said.

The EC has done this solely because of declining demand and a slowdown of economic expansion in the euro zone, he said.

"We do not share this opinion and the Q1 figures confirm that," Trajkovic added.
