BELGRADE - PKS Instant Pay, a cash-free payment application for mobile devices that is aimed at modernising the operations of entrepreneurs and SMEs, was on Friday unveiled at a counselling session on payment cards, hosted by the Chamber of Industry and Commerce of Serbia (PKS) group for payment card and digital payment development.

The group's President Branislav Popovic said payment cards would be replaced by other payment channels in the future but remained dominant for the time being.

"The PKS has developed its own instant pay application that will enable merchants to download it from the (Google) Play Store very easily, install it with a few clicks and register it free of charge," he said.

The application is designed for merchants and entrepreneurs who do not have payment card terminals at their points-of-sale.

Over the past two years, the number of payment cards in Serbia has risen 11.8 pct to 7.6 mln, which is 800,000 more than at the end of 2016, it was said at the session.

The number of credit cards has been stagnating over the past few years, while debit cards are becoming more widespread, the participants said.
