BELGRADE - Kosovo-Metohija will be a major topic of French President Emmanuel Macron's discussions during his visit to Belgrade next week as he wants to help resolve the issue, especially after the cancellation of a Paris summit on the topic, says France 24 correspondent Laurent Rouy.

"Since Macron has decided, together with German Chancellor Angela Merkel, to get a little more involved in resolving the Kosovo situation, that will definitely be one of the main topics during discussions with Serbian state officials," he notes.

France's interest in Serbia and the region has never ceased to exist, Rouy said, recalling that former French PM Manuel Valls had visited Serbia a few years ago and that there were very intensive bilateral contacts, as well as that Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic and PM Ana Brnabic had visited Paris on several occasions.

"It even seems to me that France views Serbia as the central country in the region and cares about it being integrated in the EU, along with other countries in the region, despite the fact President Macron is pointing to organisational problems that must be solved in Brussels, which makes the accession of new member states more difficult or slower," Rouy said.
