SMEDEREVO - A 7.5 km freight rail line that will connect the Smederevo port and the city's future industrial zone with Railway Corridor 10 will be completed in about a week, Serbian Deputy PM and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic announced Friday.

The government is investing 380 mln euros in development of water transport and a tender to build a new Smederevo port will be launched in about 20 days, said Mihajlovic, who expects construction works to begin in March.

"That will make this part of Serbia a hub in terms of that type of freight transport," she said in Smederevo, northeastern Serbia.

The new port is a 93 mln euro investment, with the government to invest 53 mln in the port infrastructure and the rest to come from the European Investment Bank, she said.
