BELGRADE/DONGGUAN - A delegation of the Serbian government office for IT and e-government and a high-ranking delegation of the Chinese telecoms giant Huawei met at the company's Dongguan headquarters on Monday to discuss possibilities for Huawei getting involved in development of the cloud infrastructure of a future state data centre in Kragujevac, central Serbia.

They also discussed the establishment of a Serbian state platform for artificial intelligence that would be based on high-performance computing solutions.

By constructing the Kragujevac centre - which will be southeast Europe's leading data centre in terms of capacities and technical and security standards - and by preparing a strategy on development of artificial intelligence in Serbia as well as by planning the state platform for artificial intelligence, the Serbian government is taking new steps forward and positioning Serbia as the regional leader in development of the IT sector, an official statement said.

The meeting particularly addressed the finalisation of activities related to the opening of an innovative digital transformation centre as a regional Huawei centre for the Western Balkans that would be headquartered in Belgrade.
