BELGRADE - The Serbian government will be the investor in the project to build a Belgrade metro, a working group chaired by Serbian Deputy PM and Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Zorana Mihajlovic agreed Thursday.

The working group decided that, as the investor, the government must select a special financial adviser for the project, while the City of Belgrade will select a technical adviser to monitor the project together with the financial adviser.

"We believe this is the best implementation model," Mihajlovic said in a statement, which added the construction of two metro lines in the city was one of the largest infrastructure projects in Serbia and definitely the largest such project in the modern history of Belgrade.

Mihajlovic said a legislative framework must also be ensured to enable the best possible implementation of the project.
