BUDAPEST - A Serbia-Hungary business forum, held within the framework of the tenth session of a joint commission on economic cooperation, opened in Budapest Tuesday, bringing together around 110 Serbian and Hungarian companies.

Milun Trivunac, state secretary at the Serbian Ministry of Economy, said the two countries must step up business cooperation and urged Hungarian companies to invest in Serbia through privatisation and bankruptcy proceedings as well as through greenfield investments.

Overall trade between Serbia and Hungary stood at almost 1.3 bln euros in the first nine months of 2019, he said, expressing the expectation it would reach a record 2 bln euros by end-year.

The good political relations are accompanied by economic cooperation that is on an upward trajectory, he said.

He said the automotive, construction, metal and food industries were the primary sectors offering room for better cooperation, followed by the energy and ICT sectors.

Joint ventures of Serbian and Hungarian companies and joint activities on third-country markets are also a chance for cooperation, he said.
