KLADOVO - A fifth rebuilt and modernised power generator at Serbia's Djerdap 1 hydropower plant near Kladovo, eastern Serbia, was launched Wednesday.

Its output has been increased by 30 MW and its lifespan extended by four decades.

It was launched by Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Aleksandar Antic, acting CEO of the national electric power company EPS Milorad Grcic and Russian Ambassador to Belgrade Alexander Botsan-Kharchenko.

They noted the Russian company Siloviye mashini would rebuild the last remaining sixth generator at Djerdap 1, as well as ten generators at the Djerdap 2 hydropower plant.

Antic said a revitalisation of Djerdap 1 was extremely significant for Serbia's energy system, the power plant being the most important production facility in the country's hydropower sector.

"Djerdap 1 produces over half of the electricity in our hydropower sector, and that is the very reason we attach significance to maintenance and modernisation at the facility," he said.
