RUMA - The cornerstone for a Gresto business/storage and logistics centre was on Thursday laid in the industrial zone in Ruma, northwestern Serbia.

The centre is due to be completed by the summer and the first phase of the investment is worth 2 bln euros.

The cornerstone was laid by Serbian Agriculture Minister Branislav Nedimovic, Ruma Mayor Sladjan Mancic, Gresto representatives and representatives of the Dutch and the North Macedonian embassies in Belgrade.

"This is a typical example of how vegetables are cultivated in greenhouses using the most modern methods and a textbook example of how agricultural know-how will be transferred from this very point onwards and how you can cut costs and have a product when no one has it," Nedimovic said.

"I am confident the technology brought by Gresto will produce results in Serbia as well because why would not it be possible to grow vegetables in greenhouses in Serbia if it can be done in The Netherlands or North Macedonia," he said, adding that the Serbian government had set aside budget funds for greenhouses.

Gresto is a logistics project that is a result of 20 years of successful cooperation between Netherlands-based KG Greenhouse BV and its North Macedonian partner Balkan Greenhouse, which are co-investors and the co-owners of Gresto.
