TIVAT - The volume of fruit and vegetable exports from the Western Balkans is about 20 times smaller compared to those from the EU and that is why we must keep removing barriers to regional trade, Safet Gerxhaliu, secretary general of the Western Balkans 6 Chamber Investment Forum (WB6 CIF) has said in Tivat, Montenegro, at a GIZ conference on a project supporting the facilitation of trade among CEFTA member states.

On his own behalf and on behalf of CIF Managing Board President Marko Cadez, who is also president of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Serbia, Gerxhaliu on Tuesday welcomed a decision of the CEFTA Joint Committee aimed at facilitating fruit and vegetable trade in the region.

"Today's CEFTA decision is good news for the Western Balkans. That is just what we at CIF are trying to do," he told a panel on an agenda of economic integration in the region.

The Western Balkan region needs an economic approach, without the political interference that is still present, he said.
