PRISTINA - Member of the Kosovo Central Election Commission Nenad Rikalo said on Tuesday no one had applied yet to run for mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica at the election on February 23.
The deadline for applications expires at 6 p.m. CET on Wednesday, he told Tanjug.
The election on February 23 is a re-run because the originally elected mayor, Krstimir Pantic, refused to sign the formal statement, since it included symbols of Kosovo's statehood.
Pantic's opponent in the second round was Citizen Initiative SDP candidate Oliver Ivanovic, who is suspected of war crimes and murder and was placed in 30-day custody on Tuesday at the request of the international prosecutor from the Office of the Special Prosecutor of Kosovo.
Another candidate for mayor of northern Kosovska Mitrovica at the local elections in November, Dimitrije Janicijevic, was sho dead outside of his home on January 16.
