Serbia registers 72.1 bln dinar budget deficit in January-May

BELGRADE - Between January and May this year, Serbia registered a 72.1 bln dinar budget deficit, which is 119.4 bln dinars better than a planned 191.5 bln deficit.

Revenues totalled 879.9 bln dinars, while expenditures stood at 951.9 bln dinars.

According to figures released by the Ministry of Finance, a 5.9 bln dinar surplus was registered in May alone.

May revenues totalled 196.1 bln dinars, while expenditures amounted to 190.2 bln dinars.

Tax revenues amounted to 176 bln dinars and were mostly comprised of VAT (78.1 bln) and excise duties (44.4 bln).

Non-tax revenues amounted to 19.6 bln dinars and donations stood at 0.5 bln dinars.

Expenditures for employees totalled 48.5 bln dinars, transfers to the pension and disability insurance fund, the national health insurance fund, the military social insurance fund and the national employment service totalled 30.2 bln dinars, with capital expenditures at 22.5 bln and subsidies disbursed at 19.7 bln dinars.

At general government level, a 57 bln dinar fiscal deficit and a 16.6 bln dinar primary fiscal surplus were registered in the first five months of 2025, the ministry said.
