BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic met with Romanian Ambassador to Belgrade Ivan Bogdan on Monday to discuss building new energy capacities in the interest of both countries, and said they had agreed to sign a MoU on a Djerdap 3 reversible hydropower plant as soon as possible.

Building the hydropower plant can enhance the stability of electric power generation systems, facilitate the integration of renewables into the regional power grid and provide solutions for seasonal power storage in the interest of both sides, Djedovic Handanovic wrote in an Instagram post.

"We also discussed a Serbia-Romania gas interconnector, due to be completed within two and a half years. A technical agreement between gas companies, Srbijagas and Romania's Transgaz, has been signed, and this route will connect us to the BRUA gas pipeline and gas deposit sites in Romania," the minister noted.

With Romania, Serbia maintains a tradition of goodneighbourly relations, friendship and mutual understanding as well as decades of experience in joint management of energy resources and strategic infrastructure projects and, on those foundations, we continue to build capacities that will boost the energy security of both countries, Djedovic Handanovic added.
