BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic said on Tuesday Serbia's national airline Air Serbia would relaunch direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto in May next year after more than three decades.
"It is an important step for Serbia, which has already established intercontinental flights to Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai, New York and Chicago, and now Toronto has joined the list, which represents a continuation of economic, commercial and cultural development of Serbia," Sofronijevic said.
Toronto is known as one of the most important global destinations with a large Serbian diaspora, which additionally confirms a commitment to maintaining and strengthening the ties with Serbian expats around the world, Sofronijevic said in an official statement.
"Launching direct flights between Belgrade and Toronto goes beyond solely economic interests, dialogue and the cooperation with the diaspora are strengthened, and new opportunities are opened up for development, intercontinental cooperation and safeguarding the national identity," Sofronijevic concluded.
