BELGRADE - EXPO 2027 Belgrade Director Danilo Jerinic said on Thursday the signing of a formal contract for Slovakia's participation in EXPO 2027 opened a new chapter in the cooperation between Serbia and Slovakia that would culminate on May 15, 2027 - the event's opening date.

"At the same time, this is also the first contract we have signed with a participant country, so I wholeheartedly congratulate our Slovak friends - in this way, we are building a new bridge of cooperation that will be connecting our countries in the future," Jerinic said after the contract was signed at the EXPO Playground, situated at the Belgrade fair.

He said that, under the contract, Slovakia would get medium-sized exhibition space and a pavilion that would provide many opportunities for the country to present itself.

He said contracts would be signed with all other participants in the coming months and that, for now, 127 countries were confirmed to take part in the event, surpassing the previous record of 117 at EXPO 2017 Astana.

He said EXPO 2027 was an opportunity for Serbia to gather the world around values and to send messages of peace through dialogue and creativity.

Jerinic thanked Slovakia's EXPO 2027 Commissioner Lukas Parizek for signing the contract and said he believed it marked the start of joint activities towards a better, more open and more humane society.
