DUBAI - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said on Friday in Dubai Serbia had succeeded in preserving the security of its energy supplies despite geopolitical challenges, as well as in embarking more strongly on diversifying its supply sources and routes in order to become more resilient in the future when it comes to energy.
At a panel held as part of the World Governments Summit in Dubai, Djedovic Handanovic said diversification of energy supplies and development of the supply chain of critical mineral resources were crucial for economic growth and energy security.
"Since the outbreak of the Ukraine war, we have seen that changes across a continent cannot be implemented overnight. A three- to five-fold increase of electricity prices, as well as a gas price increase, have led to a sharp decline of economic growth in Europe. In spite of challenges, Serbia has succeeded in preserving the security of supplies and we have embarked more strongly on diversification of energy supply sources and routes to become more resilient in the future," a statement released by Djedovic Handanovic's ministry quoted her as saying.
Serbia is on an energy transition path, with major investments in wind and solar power, the minister said.
