Vucic: First section of Backi Breg-Sombor expressway to be completed in two years

BELGRADE - Speaking to reporters after the signing of a commercial agreement with the Azerbaijani company Azvirt to design and build an expressway that will connect the Backi Breg border crossing with Srbobran via Sombor, Kula and Vrbas, Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said its first section, spanning 23 km, would be completed in two years.
Vucic said the expressway would be 185.5 km long and that the agreement covered a 94.2 km stretch.
"That road has five sections. The financial part of the agreement for the first section, which is nearly 23 km long - 22.8 km - was signed as well. It goes from the border crossing with Hungary, therefore, from Backi Breg, to Sombor," Vucic said, adding that the costs of designing all five sections and building the first one totalled 240 mln euros.
He noted that Serbia had ensured the funds for all projects for the first section and that financing for all other sections would also be ensured in the meantime.
Vucic: Direct flights between Belgrade, Baku to be launched in early May
BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Wednesday direct flights between Belgrade and Baku would be launched in early May and noted that they would contribute to better trade and economic cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan and to overall bilateral ties between the two countries.
"Another destination we will be flying to, and we will be connected with that wonderful city on the coast of the Caspian Sea, which will contribute further to greater and better quality of our relations and to even greater cooperation between Serbia and Azerbaijan in the economy and trade, as well as in people-to-people relations," Vucic told reporters at the Presidency of Serbia after the signing of a commercial agreement with the Azerbaijani company Azvirt to design and build an expressway that will connect the Backi Breg border crossing with Srbobran via Sombor, Kula and Vrbas.
He also said he looked forward to visiting Azerbaijan again in May.
Agreement to build Backi Breg-Srbobran expressway signed with Azvirt
BELGRADE - A commercial agreement to design and build an expressway that will connect the Backi Breg border crossing with Srbobran via Sombor, Kula and Vrbas was signed with the Azerbaijani construction company Azvirt in Belgrade on Wednesday at a ceremony also attended by Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
The agreement was inked by Serbian Minister of Construction, Transport and Infrastructure Aleksandra Sofronijevic, Corridors of Serbia Director Aleksandar Antic and Azvirt Serbia Director Ahmet Murat Turkoglu.
The signing of the agreement was also attended by Azerbaijani Ambassador to Belgrade Kamil Khasiyev. Earlier, Vucic held a meeting with Azvirt executives. The approx. 186 km expressway, also known as the Smile of Vojvodina, will allow speeds of up to 100 kph.
