BELGRADE - Serbia's EXPO 2027 Commissioner Jagoda Lazarevic, who is also minister of internal and external trade, EXPO 2027 Director Danilo Jerinic and Austria's EXPO 2027 Commissioner Philipp Gady signed on Thursday in Belgrade a contract on Austria's participation in the specialised expo.

The contract, inked at the EXPO Playground, will enable the implementation of further operational steps towards Austria's involvement as an official participant.

Lazarevic said Austria's participation in the EXPO would be an exceptional opportunity to strengthen bilateral relations further and to ensure even stronger Austrian support on Serbia's EU path, to which she noted Belgrade was absolutely committed.

She also noted that Austria was an important political and economic partner of Serbia and, traditionally, a leading foreign investor in the country.

"The volume of our bilateral trade is growing, we cooperate in many areas, we are historically, culturally and humanly connected, given the sizable Serbian diaspora that has been living across Austria for decades now. So, in light of preparations for our expo and Austria's tradition of making excellent presentations at world expos with beautiful pavilions, I believe that this event we will have next year will be of strategic interest for the Republic of Serbia and the entire region," Lazarevic said.

EXPO 2027 Belgrade will be held from May 15 through August 15 2027 under the theme of Play for Humanity: Sport and Music for All.
