BELGRADE - Serbia's Assistant Minister of Mining and Energy for international cooperation and European integration Jovana Joksimovic met on Wednesday in Belgrade with a delegation of experts and advisers from the US Congress who are visiting Serbia under the Mutual Educational and Cultural Exchange Act (MECEA).
Joksimovic noted that Serbia and the US had signed an agreement on strategic cooperation in the energy sector in 2024 as a framework for long-term partnership for cooperation aimed at ensuring energy security, the Ministry of Mining and Energy said in a statement.
"Serbia is on a path to transforming its energy sector, as part of which we are planning to make investments worth around 14.4 bln euros by 2035. We need new production capacities due to rising power consumption, industrial development, data centres and application of artificial intelligence. Cooperation with the US can contribute to greater energy security," Joksimovic said.
She said building gas interconnectors with Romania and North Macedonia to bolster the security of supply amid instability was one of the priorities of Serbia's energy policy.
"We want to connect with neighbouring countries and become a part of the gas market in the wider eastern European region, as well as a transit country that is a dependable partner," Joksimovic said.
