BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met on Monday with representatives of the Serbian Civil Aviation Directorate to discuss current affairs and challenges in the civil aviation sector.

"The Prime Minister emphasised the importance of continuously improving the regulatory framework and international cooperation in the field of civil aviation, noting that the development of air transport is of strategic importance for Serbia’s economic development, strengthening the tourism potential and enhancing the country’s international connectivity," a government statement said.

"During the meeting, improvement of air transport was also discussed, along with changes to the regulatory framework governing the flight approval procedure.

The impact of the proposed amendments on air carriers was addressed with the aim of increasing the efficiency of the regulatory system, maintaining high safety standards and creating more favourable conditions for the further development of civil aviation.

Particular attention was devoted to launching a regular air route between Belgrade and Cairo, which would contribute to expanding air traffic between the Republic of Serbia and the Arab Republic of Egypt, developing tourism, boosting economic cooperation and strengthening ties between the two countries," it said.

The meeting was also attended by Egyptian Ambassador to Belgrade Ahmed Salama Soliman.
