Djedovic Handanovic: Friday to be historic day for Serbia-US ties, MoU on energy also planned

BUCHAREST - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic said Friday would be a historic day for Serbia-US relations due to the launch of strategic dialogue between the two countries, and noted that there were also plans to sign a MoU on cooperation in the energy sector.

"We also plan to sign a MoU on cooperation between the US and Serbia in the energy sector that will also mention this project, Djerdap 3, as well as cooperation in development of gas infrastructure, the potential of geothermal energy and potential cooperation in development of nuclear programme," Djedovic Handanovic told Tanjug in Bucharest.

She noted that there was great potential for future cooperation in the energy sector.

"But, above all, it is important that we launch strategic dialogue, because it is something that will definitely bring comprehensive benefits to Serbia, as well as to the US, and I also look forward to tomorrow's events in Washington, for which we have been preparing for a long time," Djedovic Handanovic said after signing with Romanian PM and acting Energy Minister Ilie Bolojan an MoU on facilitating information exchange regarding a project to build a Djerdap 3 reversible hydropower plant.
