BELGRADE - In the past seven and a half years, Serbia Zijin Copper has delivered 17 t of gold, or 1,356 gold ingots, to the National Bank of Serbia, the central bank said on Tuesday.

In the period, the company has sold to the NBS the equivalent of Serbia's total gold reserves ten years ago, it said in a statement.

In keeping with a practice established with the former RTB Bor mining and smelting complex, any gold quantities produced by Serbia Zijin Copper were first offered to the NBS, which has a preemptive right to buy.

"In practice, the NBS purchases the offered gold, which remains in Serbia as a part of the national gold reserves. It is only in case the NBS does not exercise its preemptive right - which has never happened to date - that the gold can be sold to other customers," the NBS said.

In the first half of 2026, 164 gold ingots weighing a total of 2,057 kg were delivered to the NBS by Serbia Zijin Copper, it also said.
