BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Mihailo Jovanovic and Qatar's Minister of Communications and Information Technology Mohammed bin Ali bin Mohammed Al Mannai signed on Wednesday in Doha an intergovernmental memorandum on cooperation in information and communication technologies.
Jovanovic said he was very pleased to have an opportunity to visit Qatar and sign the memorandum, the first agreement between the two governments since 2017.
"With the signing of today's memorandum, we advance the relations between the two countries and, tellingly, in the ICT sector, where Serbia is recognised as the regional leader of southeast Europe. We will intensify our cooperation through exchanging know-how related to building large data centres and cooperation with global cloud tech leaders such as Oracle, Microsoft, Google and Amazon. Also, our colleagues from Qatar are very interested in biotechnology projects the Serbian government is working on, in particular, in the construction of a large BIO4 campus," Jovanovic said.
According to a statement released by his ministry, Jovanovic said he had taken the opportunity to invite Qatari officials to October's Biotech Future forum in Belgrade.
"This cooperation represents an important step forward in the strengthening of the ties between our two peoples and in encouraging advances in technology that will benefit our society. Our goal in this partnership is to share expertise, know-how and best practices in the ICT sector. By joining forces, we can encourage innovation, expand digital infrastructure and improve connectivity between our citizens, economies and governments," Al Mannai said.
