DUBAI - The Serbia-UAE MoU on development and application of artificial intelligence (AI), signed in Dubai on Tuesday, enables the use of the UAE's Falcon open source code and solutions based thereupon in further development of AI in Serbia, the Serbian Ministry of Information and Telecommunications said in a statement.
Falcon is a family of powerful open-source large language models developed by an institute of the UAE Advanced Technology Research Council (ATRC), the ministry said.
The MoU was signed by Serbian Minister of Information and Telecommunications Mihailo Jovanovic, Director of the Serbian Institute for Artificial Intelligence Dubravko Culibrk and ATRC Secretary General Faisal Al Bannai.
In the statement, the ministry noted that the Serbian government had embarked on development of AI in 2019 by adopting a development strategy until 2025.
The Institute for Artificial Intelligence was established in 2021 and the first national platform for AI development was launched in the same year, offering free-to-use resources to technical colleges and institutes and startups operating within science and technology parks.
Jovanovic said the MoU was a step forward to implementation of "projects for further modernisation as part of the Serbia 2027 programme and a strengthening of Serbia's position as the technology and digital leader of southeast Europe."
