BELGRADE - Serbian Minister of Mining and Energy Dubravka Djedovic Handanovic received the CEO of Greece's Copelouzos Group, Dimtris Copelouzos, on Wednesday to discuss cooperation in the renewables sector and natural gas supplies.

The main topic of the meeting was the GREGY power interconnector project by Egypt and Greece, which aims to produce green electricity and supply to it to the EU via a 950 km undersea cable between the two countries.

"Serbia has embraced the EU vision in the field of energy and climate and, in our strategic documents, we have set out our path in the energy transition, which should ensure a balance between an interest in energy security and independence and an interest in reduction of harmful gas emissions through increasing the share of renewable energy sources in the energy mix," Djedovic Handanovic said.

Serbia's goal is for renewables to have a 45 pct share in power generation by 2030, which implies major investments in new production capacities, a statement released by the Ministry of Mining and Energy quoted Djedovic Handanovic as saying.

"Also, in view of Serbia's central position as a transit country, we are working actively on connecting with neigbours both in the field of natural gas supplies and in the field of power transmission, and we are watching attentively all projects aimed at boosting energy security and diversification of supplies in Southeast Europe," the minister also said.
