BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic announced on Wednesday a New Belgrade-Surcin motorway section would be opened to traffic on March 31.

Once it is completed, it will provide the shortest traffic route to the Milos the Great Motorway and Cacak will be just an hour's drive away from Belgrade, Vucic said after a tour of the construction site of the Surcin 1 interchange.

Commending the Chinese contractors, Vucic said the works were nearly complete.

"Nearly everything is finished (on the Surcin-New Belgrade route). They did this well compared to the Milos the Great section to Pozega, where they are struggling, but this has been excellently done," Vucic told Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Chen Bo.

Responding to questions from reporters, Vucic said Serbia had built over 335 km of roads over the past 11 years and that over 500 km of roads were currently under construction.
