PIROT - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Thursday Serbia would get more EU funds - around 430 mln euros - for a project to reconstruct and modernise a Nis-Dimitrovgrad rail line and build a railway bypass around Nis.

Vucic was inspecting works on the Pirot-Sukovo section of the route.

"We are now talking to the Europeans, with whom we are working on this section. There will be significantly more money, including for the Nis bypass and everything else. My estimate is that it will be around 430 mln euros, including a 108 mln euro grant from Europe for this Nis-Dimitrovgrad section plus the bypass and all the three sections we are talking about," Vucic said.

"The largest amount of money we have received is an estimated 610 mln euros of the total 2.775 bln euros for the Belgrade-Nis high-speed railway. And things are finally moving forward, I am always dissatisfied and I always think it can go faster, but those are big things that are changing the face of our country," Vucic said, noting that a high-speed train journey between Belgrade and Nis would take two hours and ten minutes.Service Photo Gallery
