Dacic: Killer of police officer shot dead by police

BELGRADE - Serbian Deputy PM and Interior Minister Ivica Dacic said on Friday a man who had killed one police officer and wounded another in Loznica, western Serbia, on Thursday had been shot dead by police.

"Police officers have liquidated the killer of the policeman in the vicinity of Loznica," Dacic said in an Interior Ministry statement before heading to the city.

Earlier in the day, the ministry said police were searching for Faton Hajrizi, an ethnic Albanian suspected of fatally shooting police officer Nikola Krsmanovic and wounding his colleague Vjekoslav Ilic.

To date, three people have been arrested in connection with the crime.

In a statement on Thursday, Dacic said it was most likely a terrorist attack.
