Brnabic: Declaration a historic document for Serbian nation

BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said a Declaration on Protection of the National and Political Rights and the Joint Future of the Serbs, adopted by the parliament on Wednesday, was a historic document for the Serbian nation.

Speaking to Prva TV, Brnabic said the declaration addressed all important issues for the Serbs wherever they might live - preservation of their culture, language, the Cyrillic script as well as their rights.

"It is a historic document because it is the first declaration of that type, and it is about all those things we should do for ourselves, and not against someone," Brnabic said.

Brnabic noted that the document was also a barrier to forced assimilation of Serbs but was also about a substantial need for peace and stability shared by Serbs and the whole region.

"When you read that declaration, it is quite evident that it calls for peace and stability and respect for others, as well as for respect for all victims of the wars of the 1990s," Brnabic noted.
