BELGRADE - Serbian Parliament Speaker Ana Brnabic said on Wednesday a refusal by University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic to come to an agreed meeting with PM Djuro Macut demonstrated that Djokic was "not thinking with his own head" but following someone else's orders.
"Evidently, something much bigger than the rector and something much more complex is at play here and, in my opinion, Rector Djokic is just an instrument, a tool in someone else's hands, in the hands of someone who is... ...eroding the constitutional order in the Republic of Serbia through the university," Brnabic said at a press briefing when asked to comment on Djokic's refusal to meet with Macut due to an alleged hearing before prosecutors.
She noted that this was the second such case as Djokic had already refused to come to an agreed meeting with Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic.
He first accepted to meet with the president and then saw a draft letter of invitation from the Presidency, only to call in to say he is not coming, Brnabic said.
"He made comments and certain changes in the letter, confirming he would respond positively, and then called in the next day to say he is not coming. Who banned the rector from coming to that meeting?" she said.
