BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party leader Milos Vucevic said on Friday Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic's visit to the US, as well as his upcoming trip to Moscow for the May 9 Victory Day parade, were important.
In an appearance on Prva TV, Vucevic said Vucic was in the US for meetings with many US politicians and businesspeople, and that he was able to explain or defend Serbia's positions on some vital issues.
It is important that, despite major pressure, Vucic will attend the May 9 parade in Moscow as Serbia belongs there, Vucevic said.
"It is not about defiance to anyone, but about the fact that Serbia, as the successor and the country that bore the brunt (of the fight against fascism) in Yugoslavia, was on the side of freedom and justice, always against fascism and Nazism. We paid an enormous price for that, alongside the Russian and the Soviet peoples," Vucevic said.
For that reason, Serbia belongs on Moscow's Red Square, at commemorations of eight decades since the victory against fascism and Nazism, he said.
"That is also an obligation of the president of the Republic - to represent a freedom-loving state such as Serbia. I do not think it is easy for him to get all that organised because I am aware of what kind of messages he is receiving, above all, from the West. We cannot annul history and the truth just because today they do not suit someone geopolitically as, that way, we would annul ourselves to some extent. We are providing strong support to the president in this," Vucevic noted.
