Vucic thanks Putin for support for Serbia's integrity, sovereignty

MOSCOW - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Friday thanked Russian President Vladimir Putin for the enormous support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Serbia, and noted that the two countries had the joint task of not letting history be revised.

At the beginning of a meeting with Putin in the Kremlin, Vucic thanked the Russian president for his hospitality and congratulated him on the 80th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.

"This is a very important day for us Serbs, too. We are proud of our people's role in the liberation of our country from Nazi conquerors, and we are very grateful to the Red Army, the Soviet Army, for playing a major role in that liberation," Vucic said in Russian.

Putin said Russia highly appreciated the fact that, despite logistical problems and attempts to dissuade Vucic from coming to Moscow, the Serbian president had attended the parade that marked the 80th anniversary of the WWII victory over fascism.

He said Russia and Serbia were celebrating together as, standing shoulder to shoulder, warriors from the two countries had participated in the victory over fascism.
