TIRANA - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said on Friday elections in Serbia would be held within a year and a half, following a decision by competent institutions, and added that he had received no oral or written requests from blockaders to call early parliamentary elections.

Vucic was speaking to reporters before a European Political Community summit in Tirana.

Asked to comment on the blockaders' claim a deadline they had set for him to call elections had expired and that, in consequence, the ongoing protests would become more radical from June 6, Vucic responded that they could do what they wanted, but warned that institutions would do their job according to the law.

"They can keep pushing, and the law and the institutions of the system will do their job," Vucic said, adding that he had received no oral or written requests.

"I have received no requests from any competent institution or anyone. It seems that someone is not competent but would like to be competent for something. But they have not turned to the competent institution," he said.

Parliamentary elections in Serbia are called by the president of the Republic.
