BELGRADE - Serbian Progressive Party leader Milos Vucevic said on Wednesday University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic and students who were blocking university buildings had usurped state property - a state university, pitting it against its founder, the state.
Asked by K1 TV whether Djokic had broken the law by accepting to be on the student protesters' electoral list for potential parliamentary polls, Vucevic said the rector had done so by becoming the main protagonist and the ringleader of a usurpation and politicisation of the university.
"At the very least, I expect him to resign from the post of rector. If he is an honourable man, he should raise that issue himself. There is also the senate of faculties, there are those who have elected him, but is there political will within the university at this time to recall the rector? I do not think so, he probably has a majority there," Vucevic said, adding that the state did not have the instruments to appoint or dismiss university rectors.
