BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut met on Monday with University of Belgrade Rector Vladan Djokic, who afterwards said the discussion had been their most constructive to date and that Macut had understood what the University's demands were.
"Today, we had a meeting with the PM, to whom we presented certain conclusions by the Rector's Collegium and the deans," Djokic told reporters outside the government building, where the meeting took place.
He added that they had discussed all topics and that proposals had been made for the "timing of when things could be implemented and happen."
"It will not be possible to solve everything at once, but I think we are on the way to our demands materialising in some way, and to a successful finish of this calendar year so that a new generation of students can be enrolled for the next school year," he said.
Djokic added that he expected there would be "constructive solutions in the coming period based on which things can be resolved."
He said that, among other issues, the demands were related to disbursement of funds for the expenditures of university faculties - which he noted had been overdue since end-April - a dissolution of a working group tasked with drawing up a new law on higher education, and to setting a quota for the next generation of budget-funded students.
