ATHENS - During a visit to Greece on Monday, Serbian PM Djuro Macut met with Greek President Konstantinos Tassoulas, PM Kyriakos Mitsotakis and Parliament Speaker Nikitas Kaklamanis to discuss advancement of bilateral cooperation between Serbia and Greece.

After the meeting with Tassoulas, Macut noted that the visit to Athens was in the spirit of the centuries-long tradition of friendship between the two countries and between Serbs and Greeks, the Serbian government said in a statement.

He highlighted the deep historical, cultural and religious ties between the two Orthodox Christian nations, and expressed regret over Sunday's tragedy in a Greek Orthodox church in Damascus, Syria.

Macut said Serbia saw the relations with Greece as a strategic partnership and noted a mutual commitment to cooperation in the energy sector, infrastructure projects and other areas of mutual interest, with special emphasis on investments and promotion of joint projects.

He thanked Greece for the principled support for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia and noted that Serbia remained fully consistent in its respect for the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Greece on land, at sea and in the air, including on all islands.

Tassoulas noted that Macut's visit to Greece presented an opportunity to deepen the exceptional ties of friendship and solidarity, and stressed that Greece supported Serbia's EU path.
