Most blockades removed, 44 people arrested - assistant police director

BELGRADE - Serbia's Assistant Police Director Zeljko Brkic said on Tuesday the majority of blockades put up by student protesters and their supporters across Serbia had been removed.
Speaking to the RTS, Brkic said last night had passed calmly and without major incidents and that police had arrested 44 people - 38 for misdemeanour offences and six for criminal offences.
"We placed six people in detention - four pursuant to the Misdemeanour Law and two pursuant to the Law on Criminal Proceedings," Brkic said.
Between June 29 and July 1, the police arrested a total of 76 people - 66 for misdemeanour offences and 10 for criminal offences, he added.
