Popovic, Belarusian minister lay wreaths in tribute to fallen liberators of Belgrade

BELGRADE - Serbian Minister for International Economic Cooperation Nenad Popovic and Belarusian Minister of Antimonopoly Regulation and Trade Artur Karpovich laid wreaths at the Cemetery of the Liberators of Belgrade on Friday in a tribute to the soldiers who gave their lives for the city's liberation in WWII.

The October 12-20, 1944 military operation to liberate Belgrade from Nazi occupation claimed the lives of 2,944 People's Liberation Army of Yugoslavia troops and 961 Red Army troops, including Belarusian soldiers.

Karpovich signed a book of condolences after the wreath-laying ceremony.

As part of an official visit by a Belarusian delegation, a Serbia-Belarus intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation met at the Palace of Serbia in Belgrade.
