MADRID - Serbian FM Marko Djuric said on Thursday in Madrid he and his Spanish counterpart Jose Manuel Albares Bueno had agreed that bilateral economic relations must be taken to a higher level and that Serbia and Spain would continue to support each other in international institutions, above all, when it comes to respect for territorial integrity.

Speaking to reporters at the end of a one-day visit to Spain, Djuric noted that Spain, a country of 50 million people that was a key EU member state, was providing unreserved support to Serbia on the issue of the Autonomous Province of Kosovo-Metohija and territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as when it comes to EU membership - from opening of clusters in the accession talks to understanding for the specific circumstances Serbia was in.

"With my Spanish colleague, I had exceptional discussions about our bilateral cooperation, and we both agreed that we must raise our economic cooperation to a higher level and that we must make use of the fact Serbia is a growing European economy and better connect our companies and that, Spain, as a large European economy, must support both our growth and development, and that we must open our door to more Spanish investments and new jobs that would also come from Spain," Djuric said.

He said they had also discussed a range of international issues.

"Our countries rely significantly on the UN Charter and international law, we have absolute mutual understanding there and we will continue to support each other when it comes to territorial integrity and sovereignty, as well as in international organisations," Djuric said.

He noted that Serbia and Spain were also celebrating the 110th anniversary of their diplomatic relations.
