NEW YORK - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met with Russian FM Sergey Lavrov during the 80th UN General Assembly session in New York, noting that the level of bilateral relations was high and that Serbia was committed to strengthening its cooperation with the Russian Federation.
Djuric stressed that Serbia attached significance to continued contacts at high and the highest level, and touched upon a recent meeting between the presidents of Serbia and Russia in Beijing, which he noted had confirmed a readiness to maintain Serbian-Russian ties and develop the relations further, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
Djuric thanked the Russian Federation for its principled position and support for defending the territorial integrity and sovereignty of the Republic of Serbia, noting that the support was extremely important bilaterally and especially in international organisations.
Djuric also said he was pleased with consultations between the two MFAs on cooperation within the UN system, held two weeks ago.
The parties discussed advancement of bilateral economic cooperation, with special emphasis on cooperation in the energy sector.
They also discussed developments in Serbia and reviewed the current situation in the Western Balkan region, the statement said.
