BELGRADE - Serbian FM Marko Djuric met with Georgian FM Maka Botchorishvili in Belgrade on Thursday to discuss advancement of bilateral cooperation, and thanked Georgia for its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, noting that, in the same way, Serbia supported Georgia on that issue.
Botchorishvili is on a visit to Belgrade as a member of a Georgian delegation headed by President Mikheil Kavelashvili.
Djuric said Serbia was proud that its relations with Georgia were based on friendship, mutual understanding and support in the international political arena, the Serbian MFA said in a statement.
He noted that Serbia was sincerely committed to advancement of bilateral relations with Georgia across all areas and that the opening of a Serbian embassy in Tbilisi - which is underway - was a testimony to that commitment.
Djuric especially thanked Georgia for its firm support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Serbia, and noted that Serbia, too, unequivocally supported Georgia on that issue.
The parties reviewed possibilities for advancement of economic cooperation, as well as cooperation in new technologies, innovation and tourism.
Speaking about economic cooperation, Djuric said Serbia had great expectations from an intergovernmental commission on trade and economic cooperation, due to meet in Belgrade in December.
Djuric and Botchorishvili also discussed geopolitical topics, as well as current developments in the international arena, the statement said.
