Petkovic: Kurti biggest threat to regional stability

BELGRADE - The head of the Serbian government Office for Kosovo-Metohija Petar Petkovic said on Monday Pristina's caretaker PM Albin Kurti was the biggest threat to regional stability and had been wreaking havoc in Kosovo-Metohija for years under the pretext of purported hybrid threats and conspiracies.

In a reaction to recent claims by Kurti that Belgrade is allegedly "destabilising the region" and "engaging in hybrid warfare", Petkovic said Kurti's insanity, coupled with paranoia, represented a dangerous inflammable cocktail that was a threat to peace and stability across the Western Balkans.

"Kurti's hallucinations about spies and threats of various kinds are just an excuse for attacking Serbs and brutally stifling any freedom-loving voice in Kosovo-Metohija," the Office for Kosovo-Metohija quoted Petkovic as saying in an official statement.

Petkovic noted that political prisoners illegally incarcerated by Kurti were not spies, but victims of tyranny and a chauvinistic rampage by the Pristina regime.

"Kurti would like to brand every Serb in Kosovo-Metohija an alleged spy or a terrorist, and it is high time that his sponsors realised that they are supporting not only a retrograde politician, but a man who is striving to turn the entire Balkans into a place of conflicts and unrest," Petkovic said.

Serbia is a guarantee of regional stability and is determined to preserve peace in the Western Balkans, but it must be said loudly and clearly that Kurti is doggedly building an image of a tribal chief at war, which can become a serious problem not only for our region, but for entire Europe, Petkovic said.
