BELGRADE - Serbian PM Djuro Macut said on Thursday it was necessary to preserve national unity and that Serbia was looking after Serbs in Republika Srpska.

Ahead of January 9 Republika Srpska Day celebrations, Macut said Serbia was an advocate of a single Bosnia and Herzegovina within the framework of the Dayton peace agreement.

"We are going to Republika Srpska Day celebrations, and it will be our great pleasure to meet with our relatives, friends and compatriots. The message is that we need to maintain national unity and that Serbia is always looking after our compatriots in Republika Srpska as well, that we are on the side of preserving a single Bosnia and Herzegovina and that we support the Dayton Agreement, but that we are looking after our people living in Republika Srpska," Macut told the RTS.

Serbia and Republika Srpska cooperate in health care, science and education through an agreement on special ties, he said.
