BELGRADE - Through Holocaust remembrance, we assume responsibility to ensure that such evil is never repeated, Serbian FM Marko Djuric noted on Tuesday after attending a state commemorative ceremony that marked the International Holocaust Remembrance Day.

"This morning I attended the state commemorative ceremony marking the International Holocaust Remembrance Day, the greatest calamity that befell modern humanity," Djuric posted on X.

"We paid tribute to the millions of Jewish and non-Jewish men, women and children whose lives were annihilated by the Nazi regime, a crime without precedent that left an indelible scar on human history. Remembering them is not only an expression of respect for the victims, but a moral duty to uphold historical truth and protect it from distortion and oblivion.

International Holocaust Memorial Day reminds us that fostering strong and enduring culture of remembrance is indispensable. It strengthens our vigilance against antisemitism, racism and all forms of exclusion, and reinforces our commitment to protect human dignity, freedom and equality," he noted.

"By preserving memory, we assume responsibility to ensure that such evil is never repeated and to pass on to future generations the values that alone can prevent its return," Djuric concluded.
